Message of the Comintern (SH) on occasion of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Stalingrad

February 2, 1943 – February 2, 2018

The Comintern (SH) greets all comrades all over the world, especially the comrades of our new Russian Section.

Today we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Stalingrad from Hitlerite fascism.

In Stalingrad the heroic Soviet peoples did shut Hitler up, who had talked big: "We will destroy Russia, so that it can never rise again."

The victory in Stalingrad was the turning point in the Second World War and thus one of the biggest victories of the Red Army, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1943 and whose 100th anniversary we will celebrate on 23 February 2018.

Stalingrad was previously called Tsaritsyn. The city was founded in 1589 as a fortress, which should protect Russia from the nomads from the south.

In 1918, the founding year of the Red Army, Zaryzin was liberated in the Civil War.

On June 4, 1918, Stalin went from Moscow to Zaryzin, where he arrived on June 6, to organize, firstly, the vital grain transport from Zaryzin to Moscow and, secondly, the fight against Trotsky, which caused the collapse of the Zaryzin Front, and which was leading to the loss of the North Caucasian areas.

Stalin led the offensive on the Tsaryzin Front. On October 18, 1918, the white-guard Krasnov troops, their Menshevik lackeys and their backers, the English imperialists, were defeated.

At the head of this war of liberation stood the comrade Stalin whose name was honoured by the inhabitants of the city Zaryzin through giving their town the name "Stalingrad". Stalin's order to defend Stalingrad against the Hitlerite fascists with all might and greatest willingness to sacrifice this was not only an honor and obligation of the inhabitants of Stalingrad, but for the entire Soviet Union.

About Zaryzin Stalin wrote on October 30, 1918:

It is on Tsaritsyn that the enemy is concentrating his heaviest fire. That is understandable, because the capture of Tsaritsyn and the severance of our communications with the South, would ensure the achievement of all the enemy's objectives: connection would be established between the Don counter-revolutionaries and the Cossack top sections of the Astrakhan and Ural troops and a united counter-revolutionary front stretching from the Don to the Czechoslovaks would be created; the counter-revolutionaries, domestic and foreign, would secure a firm hold of the South and the Caspian; the Soviet forces in the North Caucasus would be in a helpless plight. . . .

That is the chief reason for the stubborn efforts of the southern whiteguards to capture Tsaritsyn.

Krasnov issued an order for the capture of Tsaritsyn as far back as August. His bands hurled themselves with frenzy against our front and tried to break it, but were beaten off by our Red Army and thrown back beyond the Don.

A fresh order to capture Tsaritsyn was issued in the early part of October, this time by the counter-revolutionary Cossack Assembly in Rostov. The enemy massed no less than forty regiments gathered from the Don, Kiev (Skoropadsky's officer regiments!) and the Kuban (Alexeyev's "volunteers"!). But this time, too, Krasnov's bands were repulsed by the iron hand of our Red Army. A number of the enemy's regiments were surrounded by our troops and wiped out, leaving their guns, machine guns and rifles in our hands. Generals Mamontov, Anto-nov, Popov and Tolkushkin and a whole pack of colonels were forced to seek safety in flight.

The successes of our army are due in the first place to its political consciousness and discipline. Krasnov's soldiers are amazingly obtuse and ignorant and are completely isolated from the outside world. They do not know what they are fighting for. "We had to fight because we were ordered to," they say on being interrogated when taken prisoner.

Not so our Red Army man. He proudly calls himself a soldier of the revolution; he knows that he is fighting not to protect capitalist profits but for the emancipation of Russia, and knowing this he goes into battle boldly and with his eyes open. The yearning for order and discipline among our Red Army men is so strong that not infrequently they themselves punish "disobedient" and ill-disciplined comrades.

A no less important factor is the appearance of a regular corps of Red officers who have been promoted from the ranks and who received their baptism of fire in a number of engagements. These Red officers are the chief cementing force of our army, welding it into a single disciplined organism.

But the strength of the army is not due to its personal qualities alone. An army cannot exist for long without a strong rear. For the front to be firm, it is necessary that the army should regularly receive replenishments, munitions and food from the rear. A great role in this respect has been played by the appearance in the rear of expert and competent administrators, chiefly consisting of advanced workers, who conscientiously and indefatigably attend to the duties of mobilization and supply. It may be safely said that without these administrators Tsaritsyn would not have been saved.

All this is converting our army into a formidable force capable of smashing any resistance on the part of the enemy.

Everything is tending towards the tying of a new international knot in the South. The appearance in Yekaterinodar of a "new" "all-Russian government" composed of British proteges, the combining of the three counter-revolutionary armies (Alexeyev's, Skoropad-sky's and Krasnov's), which have once already been beaten by our forces at Tsaritsyn, the rumours that Britain is contemplating intervention, the fact that Britain is supplying the Terek counter-revolutionaries from Enzeli and Krasnovodsk—all these are not just chance happenings. Their abortive adventure in Samara they are now trying to resume in the South. But they will not have—will certainly not have—that without which victory is unthinkable, namely, an army which has its heart in the foul work of counter-revolution and is capable of fighting to the end. One powerful assault will be sufficient, and the counter-revolutionary adventure will collapse like a house of cards. The earnest of this is the heroism of our army, the demoralization in the ranks of the Krasnov-Alexeyev "armies," the growing unrest in the Ukraine, the increasing might of Soviet Russia, and, lastly, the steady spread of the revolutionary movement in the West. The southern adventure will meet with the same fate as the Samara adventure. [ Stalin, Volume 4, "The South of Russia", (October 30, 1918) ]

25 years after Stalingrad was freed during the civil war, it became the operational target of the German fascists. After all, the conquest of the city which bore the proud name of Stalin would mean a psychological gain in prestige. But Hitler's calculation did not work.

The military plans of Hitler, to destroy Stalingrad was the starting point for the advance into the Caucasus, which he wanted to tear away from the Soviet Union and to annex the Caucasus. The conquest of Stalingrad was to stop the Soviet transport route on the Volga. At the same time, the fascists wanted to pinch the oil deposits at Maikop, Grozny and Baku to supply their war of robbery with fuel.

This semi-megalomaniacal and by time pressure half-imposed parallel military maneuver meant the fragmentation and thus weakening of German troops on the southern front. With the encirclement of the 6th Army and its surrender on February 2, 1943, Hitler's adventure ended in Stalingrad. Hitler's capitulation in Stalingrad was the beginning of Hitler's end, namely the capitulation of German fascism in Berlin and thus the end of World War II.

* * *

The name of Stalingrad was existing for 18 years (since 1925) until the liberation from Hitler fascism. And exactly another 18 years after 2 February 1943, the name Stalingrad was removed and replaced by Volgograd (from 1961). This city, which bore the honorable name Stalingrad for 36 years, was thus not defeated by a foreign enemy but by the inner enemy. The socialist town Stalingrad was restored as a capitalist town, namely as a result of the seizure of power of the Soviet revisionists. Not the German fascists but the Russian fascists had taken over the first socialist homeland of the world and its proud town Stalingrad!

The modern revisionists prevented imperialism from being defeated on a world scale. They transformed the socialist camp, for whose formation the city of Stalingrad was of decisive importance, into a social-imperialist camp, which was then assimilated by the world-imperialist system. Today Russian imperialism reigns in Stalingrad, in Moscow, in Leningrad, all over Russia. Today, the new imperialist Kremlin tsars rule over the country and make plans as Hitler once did - plans for world domination! Everywhere in the world the Russian imperialists leave their blood trail. Russia is one of the most dangerous warmongers in the world. And not least for the city of Stalingrad, this poses a threat to its renewed destruction.

This is the situation after 75 years of Stalingrad.

What does Stalinism-Hoxhaism teach us after 75 years of Stalingrad?

Stalingrad was for all peoples and not least also for the world imperialism itself an irrefutable proof that the Soviet Union and the oppressed peoples could win the war against Hitler by themselves.

In the course of the anti-fascist resistance, the victory in Stalingrad was of immense importance to all the oppressed and exploited peoples, who now saw the first time that the allegedly "invincible" Hitler fascism had suffered a severe defeat, and that fascism was thus indeed defeatable. This new certainty of victory was an unprecedented boost to the mobilization of anti-fascist resistance of all peoples.

Of course, this was no lost on the Anglo-American imperialists either. The victory over the Hitler fascism which was in fact tantamount to a defeated bulwark against the world socialist revolution, would result in a earnest weakening of the world imperialist system. This would endanger their own Anglo-American domination, and so they were forced to open a second front in the West to restore the anti-communist bulwark of world imperialism. Thus, world imperialism was not concerned with the liberation of the peoples from Hitler's fascism, but the opening of the Western Front was purely for the purpose of self-preservation. To put a stop to the Western expansion of communism - this is the really meaning of "D-Day." The argument of the "anti-Hitler front" was only a cloak to hide the true intentions of Anglo-American imperialism, namely the preparation for the inevitable world class war between the world bourgeoisie and the world proletariat, between the imperialist and socialist world camp, between world capitalism and world socialism. And secondly, the Anglo-American imperialists feared that the oppressed peoples in their own camp would feel encouraged through Stalingrad to revolt as well, free themselves from Anglo-American imperialism, and unite with the socialist world camp, to get rid of the entire system of global exploitation.

* * *

Today, Stalingrad not only gives us hope, but also the certainty that we can bring world imperialism and its predatory wars to its knees, that supposedly "superior" world imperialism can certainly be defeated.

Learning from Stalingrad means learning to win!

In the globalized war of liberation against world imperialism, we will turn every city into a "Stalingrad"!

And the city of Stalingrad itself will one day seal its liberation victory over Russian imperialism by reconquering its original name.

One day, world imperialism will run out of breath, just as happened to German imperialism in Stalingrad. The day will not be far away when it comes to a declaration of surrender of world imperialism.

In the case of the defeat of world imperialism, its regeneration is no longer inevitable. Precisely because of this, the outcome of the coming world civil war differs from all previous imperialist world wars. Although Stalingrad was the decisive turning point for the victory over German imperialism, this victory over Hitler was not enough for the final victory over world imperialism. Therefore, with the end of the Second World War, Stalin opened the fight front against the greatest enemy of the world socialist revolution, against American imperialism, which had emerged strengthened from the Second World War.

Firstly, history has shown in both world wars that the defeated imperialist powers could be reintegrated by the imperialist victorious powers for the purpöose to consolidate the whole imperialist world system.

And second, even the greatest enemy of world imperialism, the victorious power Soviet Union, could finally be turned into one of the main pillars of the defense of the world-imperialist system of exploitation and oppression by the betrayals of Soviet revisionists. The country in which the socialist world revolution began had turned into an imperialist-counterrevolutionary spearhead for the eradication of world socialist revolution.

World Socialism failed because of the betrayal of modern revisionists and enabled the regeneration of world imperialism and its sole reign over the world. This is an important lesson for us Stalinists-Hoxhaists. Without defeat of the revisionists, every restoration of world imperialism remains inevitable.

Only if imperialism is defeated on a world scale can it no longer serve the individual countries to defend their rule from outside. Only if the encirclement of the socialist countries has turned into an encirclement of the imperialist countries, the dictatorship of the proletariat in every country becomes outwardly secured.

If only individual chain links are torn out of the world imperialist chain, then it can and will grow together again. This will no more be inevitable if the world imperialist chain has been completely destroyed by the world socialist revolution.

Our future world-proletarian Red Army should pay attention to Lenin's teaching on a world scale: one should not be too early happy about the victory of the world socialist revolution. At first of all, the proletarian world power, the dictatorship of the world proletariat, must have been established and firmly anchored. And only then can one speak of a real victory in the world socialist revolution, that is, when all the world imperialists and reactionaries are not only defeated, but completely destroyed.

We are asked: In Stalingrad Hitler could be beaten by the strong Soviet Union of Lenin and Stalin, by the invincible Red Army, by the heroism of the peoples in their resistance struggle. But what do we have to offer in terms of strength today, for not only to liberate a city like Stalingrad, but all the cities in the world? No doubt we are still too weak at present. So we will not let us provoke by the class enemy who tries to destroy us before we have gathered the necessary forces for the world socialist revolution. But one has to see the future world events dialectically. The inevitable victory of world socialism over world imperialism is ultimately based on the objective law of social development.

Before Stalingrad was able to free itself from Russian imperialism and finally from German imperialism, the revolutionary movement in Russia was initially tiny and far too weak. This is also true concerning our new Russian Section. But the glorious history of the Soviet Union of Lenin and Stalin teaches us that something small becomes something big if one is guided by scientific socialism and mobilizing the masses for the revolution. And so, out of a small group of today's Stalinist Hoxhaists united in the Comintern (SH), a great invincible force will emerge, guided by the teachings of the 5 Classics of Marxism-Leninism and relying on the invincible force of the world proletariat. Our revolutionary matter is therefore just and we will win, precisely because this matter is fully in accordance with the objective course of world history. The world imperialist matter, on the other hand, is unjust and is doomed to failure because it objectively contradicts with the development of world society. We build on this Marxist insight. And that's why we will win.

It has always been the case in history that the oppressed classes always increased their fighting power in the moment when the supposedly "overpowering" opponent revealed his weaknesses. Class consciousness grows every time the ruling classes reveal themselves weak or vulnerable. After the liberation of Stalingrad, the oppressed classes saw Hitler fascism with different eyes than before the liberation of Stalingrad. A defeated enemy himself destroys his former enemy picture of an allegedly "unbeatable" enemy.

Stalingrad gives us strength on our way to world communism, just as Stalingrad gave the oppressed peoples the decisive strength to defeat Hitler fascism in their own country.

Wolgograd will be renamed in the name of proletarian internationalism and with the solidarity of all proletarian internationalists around the world!

Long live Stalingrad, the heroic city of Stalin!

Long live the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Stalingrad!
